Calling all Murrumbidgee parents and caregivers

If you've ever gone looking for help with how your child is talking, moving or learning, you'll know it's not always easy out there! There can be long waits, lots of phone calls and plenty of kilometres in the car.

Here's the good news. A local research project, called EPiPC-S, wants to make that easier, and they need parents and carers like you to help shape it.

So, what is EPiPC-S?

EPiPC-S is a health research project right here in the Murrumbidgee. It's testing a way of bringing your GP, a community paediatrician and allied health workers (like speech pathologists and occupational therapists) together as one team. Think of it like a footy team for your child. Instead of everyone playing their own game, they pass the ball to each other. The aim is to help kids who need a bit of extra support get it sooner, and closer to home.

The project is run by researchers at UNSW, working with Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network, Murrumbidgee Local Health District and firstHealth.

But here's the thing. Researchers and doctors can plan all they like, but the people who really know what works for families are families. That's where you come in!

Two ways to join in

The EPiPC-S Consumer Network is a group of parents and carers who help guide the project. You can be as involved as you like.

  • Option 1: The Consumer Advisory Group. This is a small, friendly group of 8 to 10 parents and carers. You'll meet online four times a year over the four-year project. You'll share what works for families, what doesn't, and what the researchers might be missing. And yes, you'll get paid: $54 an hour for meetings.

  • Option 2: The wider Consumer Network. Busy life? Totally get it. This bigger group is the flexible option. We'll send you email updates about the project, and let you know when there are chances to have your say. Jump in when it suits, and skip it when it doesn't.

Is this you?

You could be a great fit if:

  • You're a parent or carer living in the Murrumbidgee region.

  • Your child has been checked, or is being checked, for developmental delays or extra support needs.

  • You're happy to share your own story and listen to other families too.

  • You're OK with us collecting and recording some information about you and your experiences.

That's it. You don't need to know anything about research or the health system. You don't need any special qualifications. Your everyday experience as a parent is exactly the expertise we're after.

And we know family life can be unpredictable. You can take a break or step back whenever you need.
